Internship project: Ecommerce platform for ornamental fish industry

Developing a User-Centric Ecommerce Solution to Enhance the Ornamental Fish Trade

Role

UX/UI Design Intern

Industry

Ornamental Fish

Duration

6 months

Stage 1. Market research and analysis

Initiated the project with thorough market research, focusing on the ornamental fish industry. Analyzed key competitors in the e-commerce space and identified gaps in how ornamental fish sellers and buyers interact online. Conducted interviews and surveys with stakeholders in the industry, including hobbyists, breeders, and retailers, to gain insights into their pain points and needs regarding the buying and selling of ornamental fish.

Synthesized the research findings to establish a value proposition for the e-commerce platform, with unique features such as species identification, secure transactions, and seller reputation systems, all tailored to the needs of ornamental fish enthusiasts and vendors.

Stage 2. Concept development and user flow design

Led the concept development phase, collaborating with the design team to brainstorm innovative solutions for the ornamental fish market. Created detailed user personas representing different stakeholders, such as hobbyists and professional breeders, to guide the design process and ensure a user-centered approach.

Mapped out user flows for essential e-commerce features like product browsing, species-specific filters, secure purchasing, and seller-buyer communication. Emphasized a clear and intuitive navigation structure, ensuring users could easily find and purchase ornamental fish or related products.

Stage 3. UI design and prototyping

  • Wireframing: Designed wireframes that captured key functionalities, such as species identification tools, seller listings, and buyer feedback sections.

  • Prototyping: Developed interactive prototypes using Adobe XD, showcasing a streamlined and visually engaging interface.

  • User Interface Design: Selected a calm and aquatic-themed color palette, integrating elements like water ripples and fish-related iconography to reflect the platform's focus. Created a responsive layout to ensure seamless usability across devices.
